Hero. Demigod. Pure inspiration.

Truth be told, I'm not all that broken up when someone famous dies. Sure, I feel bad for their families, the lost of alleged talent, etc. But I've only been truly sad when two people died: Freddy Mercury and Richard Avedon.

Avedon never ceases to inspire me. From his own personal style and perspectives on life, to his incredible body of photographic work, the man was a true artistic genius. He lived in the moment, overcame issues passed down to him from his parents (who hasn't?) and survived to tell the tale. Thankfully, he told it through his lens most of the time.

So, thanks, Richard.

(Run, don't walk, and buy this film about his amazing life and work.)

My favorite image of him (above) is by Patrick Demarchelier.

ALC 5

I just finished AIDS/LifeCycle 5. We helped a ton of people, raised $8 million, and I felt like a rock star riding into L.A.
